Eight Off Solitaire Rules

Odds of Winning

The odds of winning Eight Off Solitaire are 1 in 2.

Object of the Game

The object of the game is to build each suit up from Aces to Kings on the foundations at the top of the game board.

Game Play

To start the game, you may move an uncovered card in the 48-card "Tableau" to the reserve or foundations. Each foundation must start with an Ace. Move Aces, as they become available, to the foundations at the top of the board. The tableau piles must be built downward with cards of decreasing value and of the same suit. Only one card at a time may be moved from the tableau to be moved to the reserve, foundations, or elsewhere in the tableau. Note that the reserve can hold a maximum of 8 cards.

Note that cards may be moved by dragging and dropping. Alternatively, a card may be moved to the Foundations by double-clicking the card, and if it is the next in sequence, it will move to the proper foundation.

Please also note that when a space opens up in the tableau, it may only be filled with a King.

Tips

Note that the spaces that open up in the tableau do not have the same utility value as an opening in the reserves. This is because the reserve can be used to consolidate builds, by moving cards temporarily to the reserve and then back to the tableau.

Hurrying to fill a space with a King while filling up reserve spaces can be self-defeating. Instead, treasure your reserve spaces like gold, because they allow you the freedom of building tableau sequences and foundations.

The tableau space does not have this utility value, because it may only be filled with Kings.

Scoring

Each card moved to the foundations results in 10 points, for a total of 520 points. An additional 100 points are awarded for completing a suit. Therefore, moving all cards to the Foundations is worth 920 (=520 + 4 x 100) points.

Sound

Sound may be turned off by unchecking the "Sound" checkbox. If unchecked, the sound box may be checked again to turn the sound back on.
