Scorpion Rules

Odds of Winning

The odds of winning Scorpion Solitaire are 1 in 10.

Object of the Game

The object of the game is to form 4 piles of cards, one of each suit, with the cards in order by rank, with the King at the bottom of the pile.

The cards are dealt such that 49 cards are in 7 rows of 7 cards. These cards form the "tableau", and are dealt face-up except for the first 4 cards in each of the top 3 rows, which are dealt face-down.

To begin play, cards may be moved onto the topmost card in any column such that the card moved is the next lower card in value (also called "rank") of the same suit. For example, if the 4 of Diamonds is the last in a column, the 3 of Diamonds may be played next. Note that any face-up card in the tableau may be moved over the bottom pile card, given that all cards which are above it are moved with it as a single unit.

Important: A space made by removing an entire pile (i.e. column) may be filled only by a King. Any available King may be used, provided that all cards on top of the King are moved as a single unit.

Scoring

Each suit removed is worth 500 points, for a total of 2,000 points if all 4 suits are removed. In addition, each of the 12 face down cards are worth 100 points if they are turned face up, for a total of 1,200 points. Therefore if the game has been won, the total points scored are 2,000 + 1,200 which of course equals 3,200 points.

Reserve

The reserve may be used once there are no more moves in the tableau. Please note that you do not have to fill spaces prior to dealing the reserve cards.

Tips

1. It is imperative that you try to uncover the face-down cards by clearing the cards above them. 2. If no clear advantage is gained by filling a space, sometimes a good strategy is to not fill the space until it becomes clear that it is advantageous to do so.

Sound

Sound may be turned off by unchecking the "Sound" checkbox.
