Sudoku Rules
Object of the Game
The object of the game is to fill in all the blank squares such that digits 1 to 9 occur only once in each row, once in each column, and once in each of the 9-square groups of squares (outlined in bold lines).
Entering Numbers
There are 2 ways to enter numbers:
- Click on a square, then press a number key on your keyboard, or
- Click "Enable +/-" on the control panel, then click "+" or "-" to increase or decrease a cell's number.
Note: If a square is blank, clicking "+" puts a "1" in the square. Conversely, clicking "-" will clear the square if a "1" is showing.
Checking Your Entries
To check your work: Click the "Check" button on the control panel. Cells which are in error will be outlined in red.
Hints
Clicking the "Show Hint" button on the control panel will place a number in a random square. A maximum of 5 hints are allowed!
Scratch Pad
Clicking "Scratch Pad" on the control panel will give you a place to store possible answers for the current square. Enter numbers or spaces using your keyboard. Use the Delete key or Backspace key to clear your entries.
Sound
Sound may be turned off by unchecking the "Sound" checkbox.
Posting a Score
Players may post their winning puzzles after the game has been won. To post a winning puzzle, you must be logged in prior to starting the game. The last 15 winners to post their wins will show up in the Today's Winners table above.
Note: You must post your score before you click 'New Game'.
